Understand first, then be lazy

The ladder that matters: reuse → stdlib → platform feature → installed dep → one line → minimal code. Skipping comprehension to ship a small diff is the dangerous kind of lazy.

The smallest change in the wrong place isn't lazy, it's a second bug.
